SUN FESTIVAL OF CANCER

A Commentary by Joleen D. Du Bois

The following communication is a portion of a lecture by Joleen DuBois, given to an audience who had gathered to meditate and discuss the astrological energies of Cancer. Joleen talks about how one can build a new level of consciousness if they spiritually prepare themselves. Joleen comments that "as the sun traverses the sign of Cancer, and most especially during the period of the full moon of Cancer, we can use the transmitting energies and forces of the sign, the light of Cancer, to build a new level of consciousness and to express ourselves through that new level."

Excerpted portions of The Lecture:

"Tonight we are celebrating the energies of the zodiacal sign of Cancer. The keynote of the sign of Cancer is "I build a lighted house and therein dwell."

"What does lighted mean? Light is electrical and fiery. We can use the fiery energy of the Sun, and the electricity of Space during the time when the Sun transmits it's Rays through the sign of Cancer; it can be used in such a way where we can construct a better "house" through which our soul can live and express Itself.

"How to build a new level of consciousness?

    1. First, through observation. You must be very honest with yourself and observe those parts of your nature that are not spiritually modern. What does this mean? Ask yourself the following questions and try to answer them as honestly as possible.
      A. Is your job reflective of your spiritual principles and high values?

      B. Are your relationships with others healthy and progressive?

        C. What habits do you have that seem to prevent you from building your "lighted house?" What habits are preventing your success?

        i. Habits such as gossiping, being very critical of others, having a superior attitude...vanity. Believing you know more than anyone else, or using your knowledge as a position of superiority, criticism, hurting others, demeaning others.

        ii. Lazy habits. Is your office neat and orderly? Is your home neat and orderly? Orderliness means to have a daily plan and keep to the plan. Orderly means to have a direction to your day, a direction which leads you to build more consciousness in order to realize your life purpose.

        iii. Lying habits. Isn't that interesting....to realize that lying is a habit? Observe how many times during the course of a day that you lie. Each lie creates a room without a light; why? Lying dims the light of our consciousness. Most people, if they have a conscience, don't want others to see their lies, they don't want to be caught in their lies. So, they build a spider web of lies which keep others from looking through the windows of their "house;" but you know, no one can never really escape from the lies they have created. Lies eventually cause a breakdown to our electrical system.

        iv. Sex habits. What are sex habits? Sometimes I look at sex habits like spending habits, especially if we can understand money and sex as creative energies. Two of the most controlling habits we have in the country are the misuse of sex and money.

For example, if we spend money in a wrong manner, if we spend money on drugs, alcohol, etc.; we are creating habits which will produce a faulty "dwelling." Believe it or not, money is a gift from the Most High. Money when used as a creative energy, gives us a chance to meet our needs and not be trapped in excess worries and headaches. The misuse of money can prevent many people from building new and better levels of consciousness; in fact it can keep them a bit "earth bound." Drugs and alcohol, they are so bad for our "lighted house;" such habits are so very poisonous to our brain and our consciousness.

The creative energy of sex needs to be thoroughly understood; we need to spend time to discover and understand the creative energy of sex; just as we spend time trying to ways to make the best use of our money. Torkom Saraydarian says in his book Sex, Family, and the Woman in Society, "The secret of sex is that the spirit which is in your body, the Self which is really You and is now identified with the sexual urge, was one with everything millions and millions of years ago. The memory that the Self was one with all life is carried to the lowest cell in the body. The efforts of this Self wanting to be one with everything again are the expression of sex. The Self has the memory that, "Once upon a time I was an Ocean and It dispersed me like drops, in order to be unified with them. This happens not only on the human level; the Self is trying to be one on all levels." ((c) by T. Saraydarian, 1987.     2. Through concentration.

    Observation also includes concentration. If in observation we only see half of the picture, we will not have the right materials with which to build our lighted house. Concentration is the ability to focused awareness. In focused awareness you have the ability to understand the various parts which create a whole.

    -You become aware which parts are missing, thus realizing the lack of wholeness.

    -You realize some of the parts do not belong to the whole.

    -You realize some of the parts are outdated; physical activities which are still at a teenager stage for example emotions which are still childish, , thoughts which are working against your true self-image.

    3. Through meditation.

    Meditation is one of the most progressive and ageless methods toward enlightenment; toward building your lighted house.

    There are many forms of meditation, many approaches to meditation. It is important that your approach to meditation is equal to your consciousness. For example:

      (a) Hatha yoga approach to mediation is many thousands of years out of date.

      (b)Bhakti, while a more recent approach to meditation it too is out of date with the present stage of soul evolution.

      (C) Raja yoga, the yoga of the royal road, the yoga of the mind, is an up to date method of meditation; it is for today's mind. It is designed for the consciousness of today's humanity.

Each successive yoga includes the yogas of the past; each new yoga helps to build the progressing light of the soul. Hatha meditation is a physical approach; Bhakti yoga is an meditation for the emotional body; Raja yoga is a meditation which includes hatha and Bhakti, but focuses on the mind.
      (D) There is an even more advanced method of meditation which will be used, once we have enlightened the mind; it is called Agni meditation. Agni meditation creates a unity between not only the physical, emotional and mental bodies, but also fuses them with the spiritual Triad. The spiritual triad is a very advanced consciousness through which your soul can use as a lighted house.
Each progressive approach to meditation helps us to build our lighted house, a house which will build a future of success and enlightenment.

4. Through creativity. The construction of your lighted house is evidenced by the degree of your creativity. Creativity is an art form. It is the balance of spirit and matter in a state of equilibrium.

Through the increasing light of consciousness your life becomes more and more creative. Your creativity is recognized through the actualization of your inspiration, idealism and intuition. An art which reflects the balance of spirit and matter in a state of equilibrium with today's progressing humanity.

Your life must be in balance; a balance between spirit and matter; and it must be in a state of equilibrium; polarized to the goal and plan for humanity.

Creativity is the result of observation and meditation. Creativity is the result of being in contact with your soul, and the life purpose of your soul.

Through observation, meditation and creativity you can build your lighted house with tools which will lead your soul into a new house, into your spiritual triad.

Do you know what some of the factors are that can be seen in a creative life?

      (A) Beauty.

      (B) Striving.

      (C) Responsibility.

    1. Beauty makes our personality strive toward the Spiritual Path. Beauty stimulates the Spirit aspect of man. Spirit creates polarization in the personality. (Flame of Beauty, Culture, Love, Joy, p. 64.)

    2. Striving. Striving is a spiritual discipline which helps the spiritual student expand his or her consciousness and thereby reveals more of his inner beauty. Striving is on many levels and takes many forms.

    The beginning point of striving is on the personality level. The personality forms three parts of your lighted house. The beginning point of striving is to improve some part of your physical, emotional and mental nature.

    The real purpose of striving is to contact your true Self, the vision of your greater Self, the "Sun" of your being.

    3. "Responsibility emphasizes striving and no one can keep himself in the right line of creativity if his life is not a continuous path of striving and refinement. Responsibility means you are placing the others life ahead of your own desires; you are placing the needs of others ahead of your own needs; responsibility means you are responding to the call of your Soul." It is through responsibility you contact the Oneness of the Great Life, the one Universal Mind.

When you make contact with the Oneness of Life, you will begin to build a lighted house which is made from the substance of all the levels of the universal consciousness, the One Great Life which is the source of all rays of light."
