Med Mt FMN Talk Aquarius: Liberating Humanity I would like to share with you this evening some thoughts on the specific energies of Aquarius and what they mean for us as disciples and for all humanity. These are the energies of liberation--liberation of the individual from the prison house of self interest into the expansive light of group service. We will also examine how Aquarius brings new life and Uranian revolutionary change and Jupiterian radiation into the world, and how the 7th ray offers the opportunity for new types of synthesis that can make the outworking of the Plan more effective. The keynote of our united group thought and meditation this evening is Aquarius: Water of life am I poured forth for thirsty men. The symbol of Aquarius is, as you know, a man carrying on his shoulder a jar of water, pouring it forth freely and unceasingly to everyone in need.
Yet a long incarnational history precedes the emergence of the soul fulfilling this potent symbol. Humanity, as the incarnating soul on its cyclical journey, enters into mass consciousness in Cancer, individualizes in Leo, and transforms itself into the world server in Aquarius. The Tibetan describes this journey from Leo to Aquarius in the following way in words from the Old Commentary: "The Lion begins to roar. He rushes forth and, in his urge
to live, he wields destruction. And then again he roars and
rushing to the stream of life drinks deep. Then, having drunk,
the magic of the waters works. He stands transformed. The
Lion disappears and he who bears the water pot stands forth and starts
upon his mission." So how does the roaring, individualistic lion transform himself into the selfless, group oriented world server in Aquarius? And what does it mean to serve a group, and pour forth the water of life “through the medium of a group.” In Leo, the individual develops self-awareness and strives to fulfill the Delphic injunction, “Man, know thyself.” In the process of doing so, the individual often traps himself in the karmic prison of self-created desires and thought forms. In modern life this is demonstrated through the misery of the consumption, sex, money or power- addicted individual who eventually, through often painful experience, comes to realize that s/he is trapped in a prison of his own making. This is the plight of the self-aware individual who has not yet discovered or oriented towards the soul. It is also the plight of the majority of humanity today. And as humanity, the world disciple, moves around the Great Wheel, from the lessons of the individual in Leo, through the 2nd birth in Virgo, achieving balance in Libra, passing the tests of Scorpio, finding direction in Sagittarius, and achieving initiation in Capricorn he arrives at Aquarius, where he functions as the world Server and the Liberator. For having passed through all these challenges, integrations and growth, the individual finally realizes the limitations of self-awareness, expands his consciousness and now stands awakened to the reality that s/he is in fact, the whole. He then comes to the great realization that Christ so fully demonstrated, that the life of service is a path of joyous sacrifice. Our current externalized world teacher, the Dalai Lama, has stated it simply as, “if you wish to be truly happy, then dedicate yourself to making others happy.” For it is in sacrificing our individual self, with all its self-centered motivations and goals and the prison of karmic effects this creates, -- by sacrificing all this we then transcend and thus make sacred all that has limited and imprisoned us in the past, for we have fulfilled its purpose as a lesson on the road to soul realization.
The individual first approaches the group from his/ her point of individual consciousness, with his own ideas and images of how they would like to serve the group. For example, “I want to be the teacher, or the leader, or lead the meditations.” Yet in the process of offering to serve the group, the individual may discover that how they sought to serve may not be what is needed. For example, a person may bring many new ideas into a group and discover what is needed is greater love and unifying energy. Or a person may bring great love and devotion and discover that a greater mental focus is required. Or they may want to be the organizer, when the group needs greater clarity about its purpose Through this effort to serve the group, the individual gradually recognizes the fundamental truth of the three great injunctions of group work, self-forgetfulness, harmlessness and right speech. Without them no true group work is possible. With them, the group can work unitedly with great potency. Self-forgetfulness means letting go of the demands and desires of the little self desires for recognition, power or control within the group. Harmlessness means always holding every member of the group in
a protecting field of love, regardless of their behaviors. When these three principles are beginning to be fulfilled, the individual discovers the next stage of group work, which is to serve as part of the group. He/she learns to blend his contribution, efforts and energy into the group purpose and group rhythm. The individual becomes sensitive to the ebbs and flows in the group life and learns to mentally work as part of a group consciousness. S/he learns to think as others in the group think, so that all dedicated points of view are included and understood. I have seen this phenomenon in groups that have worked together for many years, to the degree that if an individual who represents an important point of view is not present during a discussion or decision, then someone else will represent that point of view, contributing to the clarity and completeness of the group understanding. So group work becomes not just putting in what you think, but adding what everyone thinks, even if they are not present! This approach is validated through quantum physics theory which has recognized that an observed event or situation is influenced by the observer, and thus science has concluded that the most reliable way to accurately understand a reality is to increase the number of observers! What is not recognized either scientifically or in various groups, is that the quality and depth of an observation is a function of the consciousness of the individual making it. Not all observations or perceptions are equal, as the lenses of each individual may need to be cleansed in order to see clearly. In fact the whole process of spiritual evolution might be described as one of cleaning and polishing the inner and outer lens of the mind. Those with a clear mental lens can make observations that are the most wisely inclusive, have the highest purpose and see the deeper causal energies at work, and thus are likely to be the most profound and useful. Aquarius fosters this type of perception, for it is a universal, impersonal energy that lifts the individual’s focus into the larger realms of group and planetary life, and away from that which focuses only on the personality life. Having learned to serve as part of a group, eventually the individual learns to serve through a group, and see their service in group terms, for at this stage identification has shifted from oneself as a “part” of the group to identification with the group as a whole. The group life, group purpose and goals are all that are in the Aquarian disciple’s consciousness. When individuals in a group are at this stage, there is no longer a group of disciples working together, but a discipleship group. Such a group is then in a position to begin fulfilling the Aquarian ideal the Tibetan held before us, of groups serving other groups. This is the beginning of inter-group work, when groups cooperate and work together to carry out purposes and projects that all agree serve the greater good.
The next stage of development of service through Aquarius is indicated by one of the rulers of Aquarius, Uranus. Uranus, the exoteric ruler, which is now emphasized, since it is in its home sign of Aquarius until March, 2003, transmits the energy of freedom and liberation through Aquarius. Uranus rules electricity and the flash of the intuition. It causes sudden changes and expansions in the conceptions of people. It brings the lightning like insight of direct knowing from the buddhic plane. It stimulates telepathy and higher psychic abilities. It is also associated with the revolutionary spirit, since it was discovered during the French revolution which expressed the keynotes of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity also keynotes for Aquarius. Let us not overlook these transformational aspects of Aquarius, where revolutionary change can occur overnight. Have we not seen a Uranian transformation of human consciousness in the wake of the 911 events? Are not the revelations of the Enron corruption scandal and the Argentina financial crisis causing revolutionary upheavals in capitalism? Yet the purpose of all these crises is to lead us to greater freedom from slavery of all kinds slavery to money, power, outworn ideas or anything else that traps and holds human consciousness in limitation. The Tibetan tells us that “ the underlying spirit of freedom will triumph as it is organized into a revolt against slavery.” So the people of Argentina are expressing their revolt against the slavery
of a predatory economics that has enslaved them with debt and inflation.
So too are members of the human family who struggle to throw off the shackles
of old, outmoded ideas many of which are found in antiquated religions
and political ideologies, and some even in esoteric groups.
Yet Aquarius also brings another energy to us through its esoteric ruler, Jupiter, with its great 2nd ray love wisdom stream of energy. The Tibetan tells us that the work of Jupiter and Ray Two is the fusion of heart and mind. It is learning to “think with the heart” and “feel with the mind”, until they are fused in full loving wisdom. This flow of love wisdom will naturally keep expanding the service of a group until it may eventually reach all around the world. Love wisdom allows a group to radiate far beyond the small circle that the group may have imagined was its ring-pass-not of service. Through its radiation, the 2nd ray helps a group transcend itself-- its own self-imposed limitations and blockages -- by melting them down through radiation. The 2nd ray offers a kind of spiritual radiation therapy for the cancer of separateness. And what happens to the group when this therapy is complete? It radiates! Such a group serves by the quality of the energies it is able to transmit by its very being. So a group’s service is not primarily what it is doing, but the quality of its being. We in the West are very preoccupied with all our doing and accomplishment, but we often lose the quality of being that is essential for true service to occur. So if the Buddha were here in modern day America, he might say to us, “Don’t just do something, stand there!” For the purpose a group stands for and the energies it radiates is the
most important determinant of the true esoteric effect its life and service
will have on the world. “Standing in spiritual being” is the liberating
potency available to us as groups in Aquarius. And this brings us to that mysterious phrase in Aquarius the “Waters of Life.” We all use this phrase, yet have we really understood what it means? We know from the teaching that life or Spirit is electric fire, the Soul is solar fire, and the personality or matter is fire by friction. So how does electric fire or life, become water? The teaching is very clear on this for it states “life is the livingness that enables.” As we each grow spiritually, and as the Christ demonstrated, greater life flows through us, giving us greater capabilities, enabling us. So as greater service is rendered, greater life flows through ourselves and groups we serve through, and there is a down flow of the essential electrical energy of Life which sustains every living being, even the tiniest atom. And it is our task, as serving groups to transduce (or step down) this electrical energy of life into heart energies that humanity can use to liberate itself --as love and light in the heart. When we become proficient, or dare we say adept at doing this, it brings the individual or group into the energetic field of the Spiritual Hierarchy. We then transmit this energy of light and love from the Hierarchy, the Planetary Heart Center, to humanity, because we have been given the livingness that transforms what was old into something new --building the new world. And through the use of the skillful will, we develop life more abundantly, with light, love and power enabling the individual or group to cooperate with Shamballa, the center of life in its essence. This brings life more abundantly to a liberated humanity and greater livingness shines through the life of humanity, the livingness of the intent of God shining through his creation.
There is one other influence that flows to humanity through Aquarius, and that is the 7th ray energy of ceremonial order and magic. This is the energy that synthesizes Spirit, the highest frequency of energy, and matter, the lowest frquency. It is the cause of the awakening realization within humanity that we not only live in a world created by a great Being, we call God or Spirit, but that same Spirit is also within us, immanent. The 7th Ray also brings with it the will to be and know simultaneously on all planes of manifestation. One of the unique capabilities of human beings is the capacity to be aware and to function on multiple levels of consciousness, all the way from the physical, emotional and mental to the spiritual dimensions of higher mind, intuition and Divine will. This idea is now being reinforced in quantum physics as superstring theory, which theorizes that the universe is a series of strings capable of vibrating at multiple frequencies, each frequency representing another dimension of reality. And if likewise we, as humans have the ability to vibrate to multiple frequencies or dimensions, this makes us natural synthesizers. We can, in meditation, vibrate at a very high frequency, and then as we carry these frequencies from meditation, they permeate our vehicles and we express them, in stepped down vibrations, as we interact mentally, emotionally and physically with people and the world. This makes us living focal points of synthesis in action, for each of us, to varying degrees, is using our multi-dimensional awareness as we move up and down the spectrum of dimensional energies each day, yet always radiating what we are in touch with into the world. For the Tibetan tells us “life is loving synthesis in action,” and therefore daily living seems to be one way that we express our synthetic selves. And Aquarius with its 7th Ray influence through Uranus makes this synthesis from Spirit to matter even more pronounced. Thus the true Aquarian server can work with both Spirit and matter with equal facility, depending on the needs of the work to be done. He has the ability to synthesize them both as needed. This means we can meditate on the purpose of Shamballa and deal competently with finances. It means we can feel great universal heart love for all cosmic life, and also pick up the trash as we walk around the world. For the Aquarian disciple or group fuses individual and group awareness with a greater purpose, fuses the pairs of opposites of spirit and matter, and uses them both for spiritual purposes. So tonight we have explored the multiple dimensions of Aquarius and the energies it offers to us. We are able to distribute the energies of group work, group life and group service as an evolutionary goal for humanity the world disciple, as it moves around the wheel from Cancer, through Leo to Aquarius. We also know that Aquarius, through Uranus, releases a revolutionary energy of freedom from all forms of slavery, by helping humanity recognize the inner authority of its own soul. And through Jupiter, one of the rulers of Aquarius we are now aware of the potential for the inflow of love wisdom, a new radiation of inclusive being that is possible for humanity. This energy allows us to recognize that service is fundamentally about “standing in spiritual being.” We also recognize that the Aquarian downflow of electrical life can flow in greater abundance to all humanity through our circulatory meditation work, and the livingness and sharing of the waters of life through our daily expression in the world. So let us hold in mind these potencies of Aquarius as we move into our meditation work together. |
